Wellbeing is different to each of us, but Sam Hughes’ story is one of a kind. He clearly knows how to bring the party with him. At the ripe old age of 18, during a Covid lockdown, he is travelling Australia. This in and of itself isn’t unusual. But how he’s doing it, is. He’s travelling in a tractor at 35km per hour, alone with his beagle-cross-kelpie for a year. A P-plate driver, he prefers to drive the tractor and haul his car, motorbike, wingless light aircraft, bike, portable cinema, popcorn and jumping castle. Why the tractor? He has driven it longer and can work it easier than the car. No computers, no air-conditioning, no power steering. He wants to see the country and help people along the way. Setting up the outdoor cinema or jumping castle for locals as he travels through towns, he’s helped raise over $50,000 for charity. So the next time you’re tempted to think that life is too hard, too slow, too uncomfortable, spare a thought for Sam. He has a lesson to teach us about living life before you’re ready, with what you have, despite all the rational reasons why not, and allowing a bigger purpose to guide you. As we close out the week, what can you to take life less seriously? If you truly had no boundaries, what adventure might you choose? |
