When was the last time you celebrated a milestone?
I posed this question to a forum of 260 young people in Roma last week. A few acknowledged the odd birthday but beyond that, the milestones were few and far between.
Not because the cattle industry isn’t thriving, but because we get out of the habit of noticing our breakthroughs.
When we’re young, the milestones come thick and fast. The child is crawling, walking, gaining teeth, going to school, losing teeth etc. And along the way, we identify a milestone with an achievement.
We think the two go hand in hand. So as life goes on, unless something EXTRAORDINARY happens, we don’t register the milestone within.
Why is this important?
Because in my own life and with the clients I coach, I see how this dismissal can lead to a slow, sad level of discontent – that sense you’re not doing enough. That relentless desire to master one. more. thing.
If only I could:
- get the promotion;
- pay off the mortgage;
- master Canva;
- work out my profile…etc
But the truth is, as long as we’re focussed on the ACHIEVEMENT, we will never do, be or have enough.
I understand, you want to make a difference, to live a bigger life, be more energetic and inspirational. You don’t want to still be here a year from now, feeling the same way, talking about the same things. You want to find what’s next for you. You seek clarity and a plan.
If you’re feeling this way, I have discovered 3 questions that can reframe life abruptly:
- What does progress look like for you?
- What is your measure?
- What are you taking notice of?
It might be more customers this week than last.
Or, the ability to admit you’re wrong.
Or, the fact you took a moment today to eat lunch rather than rush through it mindlessly at your desk.
Our progress and milestones cry out to be noticed.
You are passing through and beyond a moment for the the first time RIGHT NOW. You will never be precisely this old or young with this experience again.
Beyond that, I have a 5 Step 1:1 coaching program that puts you back in the driver’s seat, knowing who you are and where you’re going. If you’re looking for a guide and plan to prepare for the year ahead, reach out and we can talk through the options.
Because life is too short to miss the best bits.
