It’s certainly been a different week for many of us in the lead up to Easter. Those of us in Brisbane returned to our rehearsed lock down positions which gratefully have now been lifted. But one of the issues that’s coming up for many that I work with, particularly the small business owners, is the toll the perpetual pivot can take on our wellbeing – physically and financially. And this prompts me to ponder, in times of change, where do we draw our strength from? In the past, I used to see my business as a reflection of me. A good day in the business was a good day and I carried this mood home with me. Similarly, a bad day weighed upon me like a stone. Despite the Easter disruption, one of my coaching clients had had a surprisingly great week. His business had won a new contract and he was literally walking taller. The previous week we had deep dived into issues of motivation and inspiration and so it would be easy to see this as a correction. However, while I applauded his success, I took pains to remind him of a simple fact. Where your confidence comes from, determines where it runs out. If you’re young and beautiful and draw your confidence from your appearance, then when it alters you falter.Similarly with social media, the research coming through is that ‘likes’ trigger a dopamine hit as addictive as cocaine. If it comes from your business success, then the reflection can cost us dearly. So what is the answer? While I am still a work in progress around this, I have found it useful to go within. Find that strength from your source, God, Soul connection that reminds you that regardless of circumstances and what happens in your day, you know you’ll be ok, you’ll figure it out, it will all work for good in the end. Some of the practical tips I’ve found useful include:Making a promise to myself and committing to show up for it, even when I don’t feel like it;Drawing from my past to gain strength in my future. Where did I prosper previously and how can I bring it with me?Taking the very next step towards my goals. Boldness builds momentum. My challenge for you beyond this week is to:Consider where your confidence comes from;If you find it faltering, or dependent upon outside influences, apply the tips above. And let me know how this works for you. I love hearing your comments and feedback! To go deeper in this work, read chapter 10 of my book The Pink Hard Hat – Steps 4, 5, and 6. Or call me to learn about how you can be mentored through this program. And cheers to a fun, safe and memorable Easter weekend. |
Don’t Die Wondering!
I know the regret of not saying something in the moment, and never catching the opportunity again. My job is to listen for their true expression, capture it and express it back in written words.
